Paved roads are just another example of wasted tax payer dollars.
I would say the Auckland crew can meet up at the Papakura Autobarn (the big BP/McDonalds on the mayway before Drury offramp)
What time are we meeting up in Raglan? Roughly how long does it take to get there? (Never been down there)

Brent,
I'd like to come along - I need as much time on the bike as I can get between now and Oz - but I just don't know yet. If I do show up, I will bring the tent.
For those from Aucks planning to head down; getting to Kawhia in a day is a pretty relaxed run. I recommend heading for the coast via Onewhero because there are at least 3 shingle routes to the water from there, whereas there's only one if you go straight out to Port Waikato and the scenery is mundane by comparason.
Dropped the Ohlins stuff into the DR Wednesday night and hoping to spend this weekend learning about sand on some remote part of Bayleys Beach.
I may not be as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I always was.
If you can make it Bass, cool.
Maybe you could guide the Qkies etc down, (and talk Crisis into showing also)![]()
So, at this stage, the sleeping arrangements are as follows:
Double Bed.--The Qkies.
Double Mattress.--Clint n Rosie,
Single Bed.--Zukin
Single Bed.--Bass.
Single Mattress.--Deano
Single Mattress.--Xer
Tri boy/Kanny.--Tenting it. (i fart loud n often).
offrd.--Tent
agricon.--Mattress/Swag or something.(will make something work)
There are couch cushions,I've got a new swag mattress, and if need be, I'll rent a big Wahine for those who need comfort. Rest assured, there will be something comfy for all.
I'm sure it will all be just like the "Waltons".
Night Granpa.
Scrounged around my big sisters house, and found another two mint single mattresses. Beds for Africa I tells ya.
Last edited by tri boy; 8th March 2008 at 21:00. Reason: Sourced more mattresses.
Happy to play guide if I get to go.
Crisis won't be a problem once he finds out that we didn't go north last weekend - we went down through Waikaremoana again and then back up to the North east - real back blocks stuff and 1000 km for the weekend. (Google Papuni Road). The purpose was to sort out the new suspenders. Really transformed the bike - absolute joy to ride now. Crisis will be all over it like a rash, when he finds out.

Bastard.
Looks ok for me coming now, althought I may only be able to do the saturday, I'll know nearer the time and will bring a tent if staying over.
Might be worth considering some A & B routes on the way down to suit the variety of bikes / rider abilities, or maybe that's a silly idea & too complicated. I'm sure we can arque about on the day.
So, Ohlins are good are they! Sounds like a good ride, I'd love to do some of that....maybe on the way to CCA?
Not silly at all mate. (was thinking along the same lines the other night).
Maybe from Akld, either hwy22 and limestone downs/coast rds are an option.
And from Raglan, either around the coast ,(quite rough for xer's RS), and the other option, seal to Te Mata, and then people can choose between the "slip n creek of death", or Te Papatapu/ Old Raglan Rd, (seal, n reasonable gravel).
The routes can be decided over a coffee in Raglan.
If the nthern crew can get to Raglan by 12.30, coffee food-1.30, leaves 4-5hrs to gentlely cruise to the bach.
There are varying levels of skill an bikes, and this sure isn't going to be a heartbreaker of a ride. All about scenery, fun, and socialising.![]()
Hey if you can make it, great! I would have a clue about the roads down there but I will have the zumo, so not all is lost is it?
Be gentle with me..........I can ride gravel but probably not at light speed like the rest of ya...
As you say, lets argue on the day!![]()

I'll be riding on 75% worn trail wings, (trying to use up old tyres), so Fatty th Trumpy will be wallowing, sledging and generally dancing like a drunk sumo's girlfriend. (whats new i hear you say).
Sounds very civilised, aren't we allowed to meet at the pub?
The important bit is that everyone enjoys themselves and we get photos of all the embarrasing bits.......
Qkchk, It will be an easy ride to suit all skill levels and I somehow suspect you won't be the slowest....thats usually my role!
The pub does great vegetarian Nacho's.
And a cool ale in the afternoon may be just the ticket to kick off the evening session.![]()
