Funnily enough, there's people up in arms saying this is racist. I don't think the republican supporters are a race but could be mistaken.

Actually, the few cases I saw, they weren't that type of person. Just up in arms about it.

You are constantly batting zero percent with all your predictions why change now.
Maybe you might want to look at the US trade deficient since trump took over, its death by a billion cuts not just one Air BNB.
Look at the decline of Tesla.
The biggest increase in trade deficit ever recorded has happened since trump took over, the US is Nigel no mates.

Trump has presented his US Liberation Day speech and I made myself sit through it. Mostly waffle, lots of denigrating Biden, lots of whinging about how unfairly treated the US is. Versions of the phrase, "like nobody has ever seen before" appeared at intervals. Australia received specific mention though, they export beef to the US but won't import US beef, 'to protect their farmers'. Not true. Very few countries will accept US beef because of the chemical growth hormones.

Motorcycles received specific mention. The US has a low tariff on imported motorbikes. Many countries, particularly those in Asia, have a very high tariff on imported bikes. It's hard to imagine the scooter riders in Vietnam or India swapping their mounts for Harleys because of tariff changes.

At one point he produced a chart showing the tariffs other countries put on US goods and the tariffs US put, or will put, on theirs. It did seem the lowest tariff anyone could expect would be 10%. NZ wasn't on the list that I could see so we have to wait.

Computer hardware companies, chip makers etc, were listed. Many are to return to US production to the value of about half a trillion annually. So too cars. Another half trillion.

    Time will tell.

Especially funny considering we have a very even trade balance with USA. Weak national. As far as i know We don't need US goods.

Apparently most imports from the US are tariff free here. Newstalk ZB News reports that the US govt figures incorrectly indicate that NZ has a 20% tariff on US imports. It seems the US civil servants can't distinguish between a tariff and a GST.

And yes, NZs response will likely be perceived as weakness in the US.

My retail business is largely US based, with most orders going to USA individuals. How will I be effected? Who the fuck knows as there is zero details on how all this is going to be administered. The whole thing could be totally performative and trump is waiting for countries to come and bend the knee granting concessions. They say the tariffs are being implemented Thursday, but it appears there is no plan in place or details of what that actually looks like and works admin wise. Also, I noticed how the seemingly disproportionately tarrifed poorer countries just happen to also be mineral rich - inflating my already high suspicion that this is all performative.

The US civil servent that knew the trade rules, were likely fired by musk and replaced by a spotty teen using Google.

Not sure we would have tariffs on anything since the late 80's early 90's.
I was thinking maybe a stealth embargo on US goods. no need to tariff ,just avoid all us products.
Exactly what products does the us produce that have no alternatives?

Maybe trumps mates confused duties on alcohol and tobacco or maybe he's just not a genius

But if anyone suggested boycotting Israeli products you'd be screaming like a stuck pig.

It's a fairly blanket approach with the tariffs, given that it also includes uninhabited islands.

    https://www.forbes.com/sites/antonio...aces-on-earth/

It has been noted that the Norwegian territory of Svalbard has a lower tariff than mainland Norway, so clever people have suggested they might ship their goods via a small Arctic island and save 5%

I watched the live stream also. Trump said he’d keep it simple and he did.

He’s basically charging half of whatever the other country is charging. Sounded pretty reasonable.
Yes we call it gst but essentially it’s a 15% sales tax whether it’s on imported goods or not. Thanks Adern.

Europes doubling down, bad idea I think, there’s a reason that 50% buffer was left open to adjust.

International markets have barely reacted, in fact there happy he’s erased the uncertainty around the whole idea. So a small blip in prices which people will absorb just like when ciggy tax or alcohol level goes up, life will go on.

I did go on customs website to try see our tariffs but it’s an unnavigable rabbit warren of sub menus on every product description. There’s more category’s than a pride march.

Pretty simple if you don’t want tariffs then don’t charge them on others.

Free free to suggest a boycott of all Israeli pork products ,some things will never be kosher.
I seems you are confused though. What I object to is not the free exchange of political ideas, I object to your obvious rampant racism about anything Jewish. Ranging from your denial of the Holocaust. Your denial of the existence of gas chambers, Plus all sorts of other stuff you claim about Jews. Including but not limited to being behind 911 or some sort of Jewish conspiracy to take over the world. Also your continued posting of crackpot conspiracy ideas in general.
I feel this is because you can't tell the difference between spreading racially motivated hate speech and free speech.
I don't blame you for your ignorance, I solely blame your lack of intelligence.

You clearly alacking some insight, its a 10% tariff on goods sold into the USA by NZ, VS GST which s an internal tax paid on all goods so there is no advantage or disadvantage on it being imported or not. so its not half of what nz charges When a person with anything over child like intellect looks at this. they should be able understand how the US is not disadvantaged from GST. If anything a lot of goods come into NZ from direct purchases without having the GST added.
