Easily do-able in 1988 (and the CBR6 is happy to run at high revs for hours)
Harder to achieve these days with the slower average traffic speeds and a population indoctrinated by the speed kills fallacy.
Rather than keeping left wherever possible and letting traffic flow we now see vehicles happy to impede progress because they believe no-one should be alliiwad to pass - as they are at the "correct speed" This speed is of couse 100kph - minus each individuals personal margin of "just in case they accidently drift a bit quicker during one of the few moments they actually look at the road"
Then add this to the the usual built in margin of 8% in speedometers and we have actual speeds around 85k.
We now have the ridiclous scenario of slow motion overtaking attempts where drivers appear to believe a head on accident at a lowish speed is a betrer choice than a safe smooth passing nanouvre at a quicker pace.
Luckily we also have super safty concious drivers looking after us - they're ready to dial. #555 at any opportunity. They know theres a risk involved with mobile phone - also but obviously this isnt really aimed at safe drivers like them- and even if they occasional meander over a pedestrian or 2 while doing this public service - surely that is still better than letting some dangerous driver theyve spotted just carry on home safely
Next we'll probably reduce their ACC levies as a reward for their safe accidents - The cost can be offest by raising the levies for dangerous drivers who didnt have accidents
Oops im ranting on again!!!

you must have two cocks, no one could be that silly interfering with just one, seriuosly , average speed for nearly four hours over the ton 166km/h average, the isle of man TT was about 189km'h in those days, with specialist racing bikes , two lane roads, no slowing through the towns like this legend did, no cars to pass or wait behind on slow corners, all this after a weeks practice of the same course.
This should be in jokes and humour....
never said the cops never chased me, but on occasion I did have great fun making the fuzz get in a hissy fit trying to catch me, and just for your information( "j/w) you don't outrun the cops by continuing on down the road faster, as soon as possible you get yourself and your bike hid some place and watch them going back and forth looking, then after hours of waiting or dark you cruise off carefully untill well out of the area
yeah those people are a joke, making sure they don't go over the limit, but desperate to get ahead, take the whole passing lane to pass a single car !
yes again , there was a scarcity of traffic back then, think there must be a couple of million extra tank tops holding everyone up now.
and there wasn't even mobile phones for anyone to nark you under for your heinous crimes, plus there seemed to be stuff all coppers patrolling the roads.
ah ! those were the days .....
Dear Mr T.Kiwi, if you youre serious about the hillclimb ive got some leathers and back protector you can borrow, i do the practice day only (and generally only half of that), which i would highly recommend even to newbies, you are the 1 in control and your sphincter will let you know if youre getting out of your comfort zone. 4 or 5 runs will teach you what you dont know about line selection and maybe give you a glimpse of what a real road race is like, something you can never experience on public roads (believe me i have tried, my 80's bike had a switch to flip the number plate down and another to turn out the brake and tail light).
Hi, that's a very generous offer, I would appreciate that , I'm very keen to give it a go, I've never entered an event like it, I've done some drag racing, but not circuit racing.
I'm fairly sure my roadbike will be fully sorted b4 the event, I did miss my timeframe with the dyno tuner , but he is due back in a couple of weeks, but the mtr I'm modding doesnt have any "race parts " available .
so I'm adapting gsxr1000 parts, this makes development abit of a gamble, but I am getting there , I've been checking trade me for leathers every couple of days, it seems I'll need somewhere around a size 54-56 suit to get around my slightly rotund body, although I'm only 5ft 7 high.
Hi all you wellington guys, not sure if any of you know "baz" of tawa area ?, he did some tuning on a couple of my bikes,
when I was down there, he used to call me Brutus, he always thought I should go racing too
so I've just bought some leathers, hope they fit, getting the bike tuned next week , now that it's back together.
just need to find me a new job as my shoulders coming right after severe wrenching/bruising I did to it, highsiding off my trailbike at 80kph onto tarseal a few weeks back.
need a few $ to be able to go and enter, I've got a set of new metzler 7rr's to put on, looking forward to abit of backroad blasting in preparation, and to get the body used to it again....
not sure what your problem is jw,
yes ive had bad run the last year or so, I got diagnosed with seronegative rhuematoid arthritis, i've had a full wrist joint replacement on my right hand, lost my job due to how long it took to rehab the wrist, then got my gsx mtr rebuilt and the auto tune failed and mtr leaned out stuffing the rings.
so i got my trailbike going again , only to get tossed off high sided on some overheated tarseal, which injured my shoulder
don't really need any more troubles to deal with for awhile, think I've had my fill of shit lately.
so I've filled in my application, went for the two days, might as well make the most of it, I'm hoping the 2nd set of leathers fit me better than the first, they were size 52 spool, but way too tight for me, looking at a size 56 spyke 2moro.
Brent back this week, hope he can tune my gsx-s1000fa and my brothers sv1000 I just made a set of headers for.
been looking at you tube vids of the hillclimb, seems like Jay Lawrence has a fairly safe record, albeit on slicks.
my bike doesnt have the top speed of the repli-racers, but does handle well, and I've got some new metzler m7rr's for the event, so I should have some fun trying to freak myself out !
so had some good news on my shoulder, it's a cracked scapula, no significant damage to the rotator cuff or ligaments, it'll be good as new in 3-4 weeks.
I've ordered a set of Leathers, bikes getting dyno tuned next week after my brothers sv1000s.
so I'm looking forward to actually going to the hillclimb and participating, just need to keep my ears open for a new job, and life will be back to normal !!!
An I wrong in thinking you should do a few track days or club days first .
Or are you trying to really be a temporary Kiwi
