Was prowling my local liquor store, as one does, when I discovered a couple of bottles of Emerson's "Bird Dog"

Oh My God, what a superb beer - just absobloominglutely fantastic. A "blow your taste buds off", hoppy kiwi pale ale.

So I went back for more

and it was all good

and I went back for more

and now its Gone :( (sniff)

Grab it if you see it beer lovers - better than Moa, better than Epic, better even than Tuatara...

I will keep eyes peeled.

From a bookbinders fan from way back.

I recall reading about Emersons selling up to DB or some big brewery a while ago. Have kept my eyes out for it since as I wanted to give it a try but have yet to actually find some!

I tried Emersons London Porter - verrry nice. Bit spendy (IIRC $12 / 500ml bottle) but that was at a pub - Empire in Petone, not a bottle store.
A couple of those kept me company on a hot (weatherwise) afternoon.

This is my kind of thread!
My current go-to beers are Boundary Rd Bouncing Czech or Macs Hop Rocker but I love trying new ones.
I'll be in Dunedin next week so I might just make a visit to the factory to try some of this 'Bird Dog' of which you speak.

Picked up a couple of bottles of Epic Armageddon this morning at New World in town, they normally have Bird Dog in. Still a few places around town should have it. If you don't mind the stupid prices I bet you can pick a few bottles up at Fresh Choice in Roslyn.

Do they have a shop at the factory?

I've not a lot of time for Boundary Road Brewery's offerings. They should stick with their RTDs. Best described by the term "Pepsi McLagers" as coined by Beer Goggles, a beer officianardo of note.

And if want a hop experience of note check out Liberty Brewing's Yakima Monster (http://www.regionalwines.co.nz/beer.aspx/liberty-yakima-monster-500ml) or Yakima Scarlet. Liberty is a small New Plymouth brewery soon to join forces with Hallertau so expect some inspired offerings from them soon :drinknsin

Don't get me wrong, there are better beers than Boundary Rd but I don't have Lion or DB in my fridge and I don't want to be paying to drink top-priced boutique beers all the time.
Bouncing Czech is one of the reasonably priced beers I like.

He's hilarious!
I like that he's obviously primed the pump before turning on the camera.

He has at least 800 tastings so far and well worth hunting through his YouTube offerings.

We visited Harviestoun Brewery (http://harviestoun.com/) in SW Scotland during a UK trip last year. Very impressive beers and one of my favourites was Ola Dubh which is their "Old Engine Oil" porter aged in Highland Park whisky barrels - fakken awesome drop! And Beer Goggles tends to agree
